Feature FAQ
How do I deal with special match outcomes?
Sometimes the result of a match is not as straightforward as usual. For example, there may be cases when matches in amateur leagues are postponed, or for which one of the teams did not show up. Sometimes matches are won after extra-time, and/or after penalty shoot-outs.
Depending on how your league is set up, each of the above circumstances may have different effects on the points and/or goals awarded to the teams in the League Table. Sometimes there may even be sanctions applied by the leagues authorities due to forfeits or other reasons unrelated to the sport field.
LeaguePad provides a range of features that allow to deal with several possible match outcomes, the consequences these matches may have in the League Table and the way the matchs should appear in the match lists.
Postponed matches
If a match has been postponed and the date is already known, please make sure that the following is set in the match details:
- The match date should be set to the new date
- The match status should be set to Fixture (not played yet), like a normal fixture.
If the date of the postponed match is still undecided, make sure that the match status is set to Match postponed (date unknown).
When a match has its status set to Postponed, the score of the match will read "p.p." in the match lists, to indicate that this is a postponed match, and that the stated date does not correspond to the date when the match will be played, as it is unknown.
Matches won/lost by forfeit
If one of the teams failed to show up for a match and the match is not to be re-played, the team at fault is considered to have lost the match by forfeit. The other team is considered as winners.
To specify that a match has been lost/won by forfait, select Forfeit local team or Forfeit visitor team from the Match status list, in the match details.
As a result, LeaguePad will automatically award the points of the match to the team considered as winners, whereas the team that caused the forfeit will be considered as losers and will be "awarded" the number of points awarded for a losing team. Depending on how your league is set up, the losing team may be awarded more than zero points. If usually losing teams get awarded 1 point in your league but teams causing forfeit should get zero points, please read further in this section for information on how to remove points to a team.
Depending on whether or not goals for/against should be awarded, you may want to enter a score for the match. The score you enter in a match won by forfeit will have no influence on LeaguePad's determination about which team should be considered as winners. The forfeited team will always be considered as losers. However, if the rules of your league indicate for instance that a match won by forfait corresponds to a 3-0 win, you may want to specify a score of 3-0 (or 0-3) so that the goals for and against are properly reflected in the League Table.
When a match is set to be won by forfeit, the score of the match will read "F - " if the local team has caused the forfeit or " - F" if the visitor team has caused the forfeit. This allows matches won by forfeit to be recognized and to stand out from fixtures or postponed matches in the match lists.
Matches won after extra-time
If a match has been won after extra-time, the score of the match should specify the full-time score. In addition, the option After extra-time should be enabled in the match details.
Matches set to be won after extra-time appear with an asterisk (*) next to the visitor team, no matter which team won the match. This allows to differentiate the outcome of the match from "normal" wins.
Matches won after shoot-outs
If a match has been won after shoot-outs, you need to enable the Shoot-out win locals or Shoot-out win visitors option in the match details.
When the outcome of a match has been decided on shoot-outs, the number of points awarded for the winning and losing teams can be different than for a "normal" win or defeat in the League Table. You can specify the number of points to award for each shoot-out win and defeat from the League Configuration screen.
The score specified in a match won on shoot-outs should always be a draw. It should be the score of the match prior the shoot-outs. You can track the shoot-out score itself in the Comments field of the match details, or you can set up custom events if you want to track succeeded and/or missed shoot-outs.
Matches won on shoot-outs are listed in a slightly different manner than "normal" local wins or away wins. The background color of the match will be white (or the color assigned to display draw/tie matches), however the winning team will still appear in bold characters. This is the only situation where a match listed on a draw background color will have a team displayed in bold.
Adding or removing points/goals
In the event that you need to manually amend the number of points and/or goals for a team (for example following a sanction from the league authorities) you can "hard code" additional points or withdraw points to any team. The points you add or remove to any team will be added or removed from the League Table, independently of the team results.
To add or remove points/goals, click Teams from the main toolbar and select the team. You may then enter a number in any of the following fields:
- Points to add
- Points to remove
- Goals to add
- Goals to remove
